Google Introduced “Nano Banana 2”

Google is introducing “Nano Banana 2” today. Also known as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, it arrives shortly after the release of Gemini 3.1 Pro. Nano Banana 2 replaces Nano Banana Pro across the Fast, Thinking, and Pro models inside Gemini.

Nano Banana Pro isn’t going away entirely: Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will still be able to access it for specialized tasks via the three-dot menu. Nano Banana 2 is also coming to Google Search’s AI Mode, available in the Google app and in both mobile and desktop browsers.

Google says Nano Banana 2 delivers the advanced world knowledge, quality, and reasoning users liked in Nano Banana Pro—now at much faster speeds. It enables rapid edits and iteration and uses real-time information and images from web search to render specific subjects more accurately. Its deeper understanding supports creating infographics, turning notes into diagrams, and generating data visualizations.

The model produces accurate, legible text and can even translate and localize text within images. Google also claims Nano Banana 2 narrows the gap between speed and visual fidelity by generating high-quality, photorealistic imagery with vibrant lighting, richer textures, and sharper details. It can maintain character likeness for up to five characters and preserve the fidelity of up to 14 objects in a single workflow, while following complex prompts more closely and capturing subtle nuances.
