Samsung Could Unveil Its Tri-Fold Phone This Month

According to a new report, Samsung may finally unveil its first tri-fold smartphone, which it has been working on for a long time, this very month. South Korea's ET News suggests the company could showcase this innovative device earlier than expected at a special Unpacked event in late September. This would then be followed by a commercial rollout in November.

New supply chain information indicates that Samsung has sharply reduced its production targets. The initial forecast of 200,000 units has now been lowered to just 50,000 units.

A first-generation device, tentatively named the Galaxy Z TriFold, is seen as a trial to test consumer demand for this form factor. Making things even more complicated is the fact that Samsung's tri-fold smartphone will only be sold in two markets - South Korea and China. This limited release is reportedly to avoid diverting attention and cannibalizing demand for the Galaxy Z Fold7.
