Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 unveiled – Powerful AI and performance for mid-range smartphones
Qualcomm has officially introduced the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, delivering major performance gains in the mid-range smartphone segment. Built using TSMC’s 4nm process, this chip offers around 27% better CPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
The processor features a 1+3+4 core configuration: one 2.8 GHz Cortex-A720, three 2.4 GHz A720 cores, and four 1.84 GHz Cortex-A520 efficiency cores. This setup balances power and efficiency for a smoother user experience.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 shines in AI performance. It can run large language models directly on-device, and is the first Snapdragon 7 series chip to support Stable Diffusion image generation. According to Qualcomm, it delivers 65% higher AI performance than its predecessor.
The updated Adreno GPU brings 30% improved graphics performance, with support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.3, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG standards.
Camera capabilities include up to 200 MP photo capture, 4K HDR video at 60 fps, and new AI-powered autofocus, auto white balance, auto exposure, and hardware stabilization – all new for the 7 series.
Other features include support for up to 16 GB LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, 144 Hz refresh rates, and WQHD+ displays. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 5G modem (up to 4.2 Gbps), Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, aptX Lossless, Qualcomm Aqstic Hi-Fi DAC, and Quick Charge 5.
Notably, it includes Qualcomm’s XPAN technology for the first time, ensuring seamless audio/data connectivity across rooms or floors, even when the phone isn’t nearby.
The first phones with Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 – Honor 400 and Vivo S30 – are expected to launch later this month.
